Honest question from a scratchie noob here 😅 I only started buying them a couple months back and I scratch straight away, every time. Can't help myself. Sitting on one feels worse than finding out, even if it's a dud.
Maybe I'm being dumb but I reckon the "saving them for a rainy Sunday" thing is just delaying the pain in a nice package haha. The ticket's already bought, the outcome's already locked in, right? So the glovebox pile is basically disappointment storage 😂 Though part of me gets it - three at once does feel like a bigger arvo than one sad scratch at the servo counter while waiting for fuel. Do people actually hold them for weeks or is that just a myth?

Straight away, every time, mate. Same instinct as you. A scratchie sitting in the glovebox is just money that doesn't exist yet, and I'd rather cop the dud on the spot than build a pile of disappointment for a Sunday arvo. Only exception is if I buy a couple while I'm out and plan the session; even then they're gone by the drive home. 😭🎰
I used to hoard them too, then one Sunday arvo I cracked open a glovebox pile from months back and every last one was a dud. Six disappointments in a row, harder than taking them one at a time, believe me. Now I scratch at the counter like everyone says, though I'll admit a single one saved for a rainy day does feel like a little treat. Each to their own, but don't build a nest egg of scratchies, mate 😉 ah well, we grind on.
Total noob question 🙈 when Sam says all his stash were duds, does that mean unscratched ones go past their prize window eventually? Because I've also got a couple sitting around and now I'm worried I'll forget to check them properly lol. Is scratching at the counter safer so staff scan it right away? Cheers if anyone knows 😊

Nah mate, Sam just meant they were losing tickets, nothing to do with expiry 😄 Though you're right to keep an eye on the claim period - scratchies have a window to claim prizes, so don't let them rot in the glovebox for a year. My rule from the old Queen of the Nile days: scratch at the counter or within the week. Learned that after sitting on a winner once and nearly forgetting about it.

Straight away, every time, and here's my logic: a scratchie is a done deal the second you buy it, the outcome's already printed on the thing. Hoarding doesn't change the maths, it just changes when you cop the news. Same reason I don't leave a pokie session half-finished at the club and "come back for the rest" — you settle up and move on.
Only caveat is the claim window FreoDad mentioned, that part's real. Mate of mine left a winner sitting in his ute ashtray for ages because he forgot about it, lucky he still got it in. So my rule is simple: scratch at the servo counter if the queue's short, bank whatever you hit, bin the duds, and get on with the day. Glovebox pile is just deferred disappointment with extra steps 💸

Just don't fool yourself it's anything beyond luck, long-run the Scratch-its take more than they hand back, same as the pokies. Hoarding or scratching straight away, the printed result doesn't care either way.
